A word counter tallies the words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, and paragraphs in a text. These metrics matter for writing constraints — essays, tweets, meta descriptions, and SEO snippets all have length limits. The counter updates live as the user types or pastes, giving immediate feedback without any upload.
How It Works
Words are counted by splitting the text on Unicode whitespace sequences (one or more spaces, tabs, newlines) and discarding empty fragments. Characters are the string's .length (with spaces) and the length after removing whitespace (without spaces). Sentences are approximated by counting terminal punctuation (. ! ?) followed by whitespace or end-of-text. Paragraphs are counted by splitting on double newlines. All counts run in O(n) locally.

Technical Details
Word splitting: Unicode-aware whitespace regex (\s+). Sentence detection is heuristic — it counts terminal punctuation followed by a boundary, so abbreviations (e.g., 'Dr.') may inflate the count. Paragraphs split on /\n{2,}/. CJK text (Chinese/Japanese/Korean) does not use spaces between words, so word counts for CJK input approximate by counting characters. All processing is local and O(n).
